Finding Support When You Need It Most

Counselling and Psychotherapy in Mayo

If you've already read this far, you've already started your own journey. That takes courage. Life can throw up issues and concerns that feel overpowering and restrictive to your growth. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, relationship pressures or a sense of being stuck. Perhaps you're worried about your adolescent who's facing challenges that seem beyond your reach.

Opening up and discussing your thoughts can be overwhelming and daunting. I get that. But with the right support and a positive approach, the stepping stones on your journey can be managed and crossed by yourself with a helping hand. You don't have to do this alone.

How I Can Support You

I'm Paul Mc Donagh, an APCP registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in Co. Mayo, covering the surrounding areas of Roscommon and Sligo. If you're looking for counselling in Mayo, I offer support to adults and adolescents (12+) who have life issues that seem to be holding them back.

My counselling service, in a safe and confidential setting, offers an attentive listening and self-exploration approach to finding clarity and purpose. I'm experienced in Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural approaches, and I offer integrative therapy sessions to suit you in the here and now. This means I adapt my approach to meet your personal needs, helping you build resilience and self-mastery skills, not only for now but also for the challenges your future self will face.

Sessions are 60 minutes, available in person at my Foxford practice or online, and they begin with a free phone consultation.

Counselling For Adults

Just listening can offer you the opportunity to speak. By using a non-judgemental and empathic approach, you can feel more comfortable and at ease discussing the restrictive issues causing hurt in your life and bring them into the room without judgement.

Counselling for Adolescents

If you're seeking counselling for adolescents in Mayo, I work with young people aged 12 and above, offering a safe space where they can explore what's affecting them right now. Using attentive listening and creative approaches when helpful, I support adolescents through the challenges preventing their growth and self-discovery.

Creative Therapy Approaches

Looking for something different? Creative therapy in Mayo offers another pathway to healing. Using your own creativity to make something unique or meaningful to you through pyrography and resin moulding can help you explore hidden emotions and reconnect with your creative side. The focus is more on the creation of your art and your feelings during the process than on the final product. This more relaxed approach opens up a non-verbal communication pathway to explore feelings that are hard to put into words.

Areas I Work With

Whether you're an adult or seeking support for your adolescent, I work with a wide range of concerns. For adults, this includes anxiety and stress, depression, low self-esteem and self-worth, trauma, relationship and family dynamics, anger issues, grief and loss, workplace pressures including bullying, and social isolation.

If you're looking for counselling for adolescents in Mayo, I specialise in supporting young people through identity exploration, dark thoughts and self-harming behaviours, anxiety and depression, anger regulation, rigid thinking patterns, communication difficulties, school pressures, social media challenges, neurodiversity issues and substance misuse.

"Not only young children, but human beings of all ages are found to be at their happiest and able to deploy their talents to best advantage when they are confident that, standing behind them, there are one or more trusted persons who will come to their aid should difficulties arise."
